Caribbean Sea: Crew of USS Franklin D. Roosevelt sees cigar with portholes follow carrier
Around 9:00 p.m. one evening in September 1958, at least 25 crew members of the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, on a shakedown cruise out of Guantanamo Bay, saw a light following the ship; fireman's apprentice Chester C. Grusinski saw a cigar-shaped object with portholes and figures inside.
Background
Around 9:00 p.m. the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt was on a shakedown cruise in the Caribbean Sea out of Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba, when at least 25 of the 3,000 crew members noticed a light following the aircraft carrier. Fireman's apprentice Chester C. Grusinski watched it come close and saw a cigar-shaped object with portholes and figures inside looking out. He could feel heat coming from the object, and some of the ship's power apparently went out. After a few minutes the object turned red-orange and took off. Grusinski described the sighting in Flying Saucer Review in 1995; further accounts appeared in the Ohio UFO Notebook, FSR in 2001 and Timothy Good's Need to Know. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
