Topeka, Kansas: Amber sphere sits in yard of CAP officer, then wiring and eye damage
At 1:35 a.m. on November 11, 1958, Civil Air Patrol Lt. Col. Mrs. Robert J. Kinney in Topeka saw a 25-foot amber-lit sphere on the walkway in her yard; it shot straight up, airport controllers also saw a light, and electrical and health effects followed.
Background
At 1:35 a.m. Mrs. Robert J. Kinney, a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol in Topeka, Kansas, woke when amber light flooded her bedroom and her three dogs barked. The source was a sphere about 25 feet in diameter sitting on the walkway in the yard about 30 feet away; when she opened a door to the porch, the light zoomed straight up and out of sight. A neighbor phoned to say she had seen the light heading toward the house, and at 7:30 a.m. controllers at Philip Billard Municipal Airport called about the light they had seen. That evening the east side of the house had an electrical failure that fuse replacement did not fully fix, and an electrician replaced wiring on November 12. Kinney later developed subconjunctival hemorrhages and light sensitivity, and both of her male dogs developed cataracts. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
