Goodenough Bay, Papua: Priest and teacher see bright white light over Owen Stanley Range
At dusk on March 19, 1959, the Rev. Albert M. Ririka and teacher Augustine Bogino saw a brilliant white light over the Owen Stanley Range from the shore of Goodenough Bay, Papua.
Background
At dusk the Rev. Albert M. Ririka, a priest, and Augustine Bogino, a teacher, were walking along a path on the shore of Goodenough Bay, Papua, when they saw a brilliant white light in the sky over the Owen Stanley Range. They described it as "like another moon in the sky, but smaller"; the real moon was visible elsewhere in the sky. The light shone far brighter than any star, and they estimated it to be at least 20 miles away. Its intensity reminded them of a Tilley lamp, a comparison that soon became the object's nickname. Norman E. G. Cruttwell later included the sighting in his account of the Papua sightings of 1959. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
