Background

At 2:00 a.m. Percy Briggs was driving a load of vegetables from Purnong to Mannum, South Australia, with Claypans postmaster C. Towill as passenger. They had just climbed Cournamont Hill near the Purnong Ferry over the Murray River when they saw, to the left of the road, a huge dome-shaped object with 8–9 red and blue lights about 20 feet apart. The object soon rose from the ground at a 15° angle and moved away to the southwest, its separate lights merging into one big light. They watched it recede for about 10 minutes. Eberhart cites the Australian Saucer Record (1959), Flying Saucer Review (September/October 1959) and Loren E. Gross. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
