Proberta, California: Crescent object over US 99, driver feels pulled, battery ruined
At 5:45 a.m. one day in December 1959, Larry Jensen, driving on US Highway 99 near Proberta, California, saw a huge bluish-green crescent-shaped object hover above the road while his radio crackled and his lights dimmed; afterward his car's battery and generator were found damaged.
Background
At 5:45 a.m., Larry Jensen was driving to work on US Highway 99 near Proberta, California, when his radio began making snapping noises and his lights dimmed. When he stopped to check the feebly shining headlights, he noticed a huge, bright, bluish-green, crescent-shaped object, about 80–90 feet across, hovering about 60 feet above the road a quarter of a mile behind him. He suddenly found his clothes soaked, felt as if he were being crushed inside and sucked up into the object, and staggered against a side mirror before getting back into the car. The object headed northeast over the Sierra foothills and vanished within 10 seconds, and his lights came back on. About 600 feet later he had to stop because of a smell of burning rubber: the battery caps were blown out, the battery was swollen, the generator was not working, and the armature and field wires had melted together.
