On September 28, 1960 at 4:25 in the morning, three police officers in Wichita Falls, Texas watched a glowing unidentified flying object draw a bright streak across the night and come down with a loud impact. It glowed intensely like a neon sign and appeared to be about 15 feet long.
Further Witnesses
At 4:30, H. L. Slate in Dallas saw the object glowing white close to the ground before it turned red and disappeared. In Graham, Texas, airport manager Boyd Fortner saw it as an extremely bright object, about two thirds the size of the moon, moving west; he at first took it for an aircraft crash.
Search and Investigation
Air Force personnel searched the area around Wichita Falls, while the local police called off their own search. Sheppard Air Force Base conducted an intensive search within a 20-mile radius where the object was thought to have come down. Reports suggest that physical remains were recovered.
