Background

At 11:00 a.m. on April 18, 1961, Joe Simonton heard a whining sound on his farm four miles from Eagle River, Wisconsin, and saw a silvery object, 30 feet in diameter and 12 feet high with exhaust pipes around its periphery, land nearby. A door opened and a man about 5 feet tall in a black turtleneck and black trousers appeared, holding a metallic jug and gesturing for a drink; two other figures were visible inside. Simonton filled the jug with water, saw one man cooking on a flameless grill, and received four perforated pancakes about 3 inches across; the object took off after 5 minutes. He gave one pancake via Judge Frank Wellington Carter to NICAP and one to J. Allen Hynek for Project Blue Book. An analysis by the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare found terrestrial, tasteless ingredients including hydrogenated oil and buckwheat flour. The Air Force concluded that Simonton was honest but had conflated the reality of his breakfast with a dream. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
