Rodovia Anchieta, Brazil: Police and motorists watch luminous disc that dives at the cars
From 2:30 a.m. on 5 June 1961, patrolmen Jaime de Miranda and Astrogildo de Medeiros and the occupants of about 20 stopped cars watched a luminous disc maneuver over the Rodovia Anchieta highway northwest of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil; it rushed toward the cars when lit with a red light.
Background
At 2:30 a.m., patrolmen Jaime de Miranda and Astrogildo de Medeiros were called to a sighting on the Rodovia Anchieta highway 30 miles northwest of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil. They found about 20 cars stopped along the road and people watching a luminous disc-shaped object maneuvering in the area. A spotlight signal brought no response, but when they focused a red light on it, the object moved toward the cars at high speed and they took cover. Marshal José Otavia Leite was about to shoot at it but was stopped by other police. After 3 hours the object grew dimmer; at 5:30 a.m. it was still visible through binoculars when it landed some distance from the highway, and by daybreak it was gone. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
