Background

At 6:35 a.m. Giacomo Barra, Giuseppe Pordoi, Filippo Marin and Silvano Guardinfante were in a motorboat off Savona, Italy, when the boat began to roll badly. More than half a mile away they saw the surface of the sea "bulging like an enormous ball, with long billows going out." An object emerged from the Ligurian Sea, stopped for a few seconds at a height of about 30 feet and rocked slightly. A halo formed around its base, and it shot away quickly across the sea, vanishing towards the northwest. The case was reported by Gordon W. Creighton in Flying Saucer Review in 1963 and is also listed by Loren E. Gross and Richard Dolan. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
