Background

Mrs. Erwin Riley, a summer resident of Two Harbors, saw a large object slide into Lake Superior about one mile from shore and bob on the surface. She called her neighbor Jack Ray, and both watched it through binoculars without being able to identify it. At dusk the Lake County Sheriff responded but could see little because of swells; he called the Air Force and Coast Guard to rule out a training exercise. Shortly afterward Riley saw the object rise and travel southeast at about the speed of a car. A Coast Guard search the next day turned up only a floating log. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
