Capay, California: Dairyman sees large disc hovering over field, irrigation later fails
At 9:45 p.m. on September 26, 1962, dairyman A. T. Gray saw a grayish, metallic, saucer-like object about 40–50 feet across hovering 30–40 feet above a field near Lindsay Avenue in Capay, California, before it ascended with a whooshing sound; days later water would not flow over the spot, and nothing grew there for two years.
Background
At 9:45 p.m. on September 26, 1962, dairyman A. T. Gray was driving along Lindsay Avenue in Capay, California, toward a 200-acre field to shut off irrigation pumps when he saw two large lights he first took for automobiles in the field. Approaching, he realized the grayish-white lights, about 30 feet apart, were attached to a large, flat-bottomed object hovering 30–40 feet above the ground and illuminating the area beneath it; a smaller bright red, round light sat above them on a low, wide dome. He described an oval, grayish, metallic craft resembling an inverted saucer, about 40–50 feet in diameter and 10–12 feet high, which suddenly ascended with a whooshing sound, turned east and disappeared. Gray and others checked the area the next morning but found no evidence of a landing. A few days later an attempt to irrigate the field failed because water would not flow over the area where the object had hovered; after the soil was worked the water flowed normally, but nothing grew there for two years. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
