Six fishermen — E. P. Taylor, R. C. Bauld, V. Watkins, M. Lush, R. E. Goodall, and M. Dentice — were aboard their boat Ponui about half a mile from the Kinloch Marina on March 29, 1962 at 11:32.

The object hovered over Whangamata Bay. At first it resembled a parachute and remained stationary for around two minutes. Through binoculars they made out a counter-clockwise rotating motion. It soon took the form of a cross. It then accelerated abruptly and disappeared within four seconds.

Significance

The detailed observation by several witnesses using optical aids has been cited in support of the report. Reported in "Flying Saucer Review" (8, no. 5, Sept./Oct. 1962, p. 23). No conventional explanation is documented.
