On October 31, 1963, near Iguape, São Paulo, eight-year-old Rute de Souza saw a silvery object hit a palm tree and fall into the Rio Peropava; her mother and uncle saw the river boil up at the spot, fishermen also watched, and divers found no wreckage.
Background
Eight-year-old Rute de Souza heard a strange roar and watched a silvery object coming towards her house near Iguape, São Paulo, Brazil. It soared above her, hit a palm tree, gyrated a little in the air and then fell into the Rio Peropava near the opposite shore. Her mother and uncle, whom she fetched, also heard the sound and saw the river boiling up at the spot, followed by an eruption of muddy water and mud. Fishermen, including Tetsuo Ioshigawa, also saw the event; the object was estimated at 25 feet in diameter. Divers, with and without equipment, failed to find any wreckage in the river, which is only 12 feet deep there. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
