Background

Four teenagers, among them John Flaxton, Mervyn Hutchinson and Jenny Holloway, were in Sandling Park near Saltwood, Kent, when they saw a moving reddish-yellow "star" above the woods descend at an angle of 60° and vanish. Moments later they saw a bright golden light in a field about 240 feet away, floating 10 feet above the ground and seemingly 15–20 feet across; it seemed to move along with them for a short while. It disappeared behind trees, then a dark figure shambled out of the woods: all black, about human size, without a head and with bat wings. The teenagers ran away. Other witnesses came forward to report strange lights and giant footprints in the woods. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
