Background

Gary Wilcox, a dairy farmer of Newark Valley, New York, was driving a tractor on his property when he saw a shiny object at the inside edge of a patch of woods. He approached the egg-shaped object, 20 feet long, 16 feet wide and 4 feet high, hovering two feet above the ground with a sound like an idling car, and touched hard metal. Two figures 4 feet tall in seamless silvery garments appeared from under it, each carrying a tray of alfalfa, roots, soil, leaves and brush; a voice told him not to be alarmed, and they asked about his work, asked for some of his manure, talked about space exploration and claimed to be from Mars. The object then took off horizontally, leaving small depressions where the figures had stood and a thin, red, jelly-like substance. Eberhart cites reports in the Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin (May 1964), Fate, Saucer News, Berthold E. Schwarz in Flying Saucer Review and Clark's encyclopedia. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
