Comstock, Minnesota: Farmer sees glowing top-shaped object rise, finds scorched depression
At 8:30 a.m. on May 5, 1964, Alfred Ernst saw a luminous object shaped like a child's top rise straight up from his farm about 6 miles east of Comstock, Minnesota; at the spot he and his brother found a crater-like depression ringed by smaller holes and burned-looking earth.
Background
At 8:30 a.m. Alfred Ernst, on his farm about 6 miles east of Comstock, Minnesota, saw a luminous object like a child's top from about 1,500 feet away. It rose straight up and disappeared into the overcast sky after a few seconds. At the spot where the object had been sitting, Ernst and his brother found a crater-like depression about 3 feet in diameter and 6 inches deep at the center, with a series of smaller holes forming an X around it. The earth seemed burned on the perimeter of the hole, and a whitish substance was found. The Barnesville Record-Review reported the case on May 7, 1964, and ran a follow-up on May 21 headlined that the “space ship” was possibly lightning. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
