Background

At 10:28 p.m. on May 15, 1964, school teacher Pat Minette, driving with Mrs. Orville Bolstad and her three children (ages 12, 9, and 7) between Lewistown and Winifred, Montana, saw a large circular object in the sky just north of Lewistown. Minette described it as 'like a big car in the sky' with very bright headlights and 'an extremely wavy motion like a float bobbing in the water' as it approached and then moved west over the Judith Mountains; the group stopped and watched it for about four minutes. They saw the object again near Hilger, low on the western horizon, where it left a lingering glow as it disappeared. About six miles south of Winifred they observed it a third time at an estimated altitude of no more than 100 feet, very large and emitting an orangish glow that occasionally shifted to red, before it 'seemed to pass over Winifred as if making a question mark' and vanished abruptly. The object was silent throughout, and no other witnesses in Winifred reported hearing or seeing anything unusual. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
