Background
In the evening many witnesses in Madras, Oregon, including four police officers, saw umbrella-shaped UFOs for more than seven hours. The objects alternately hovered and moved at high speed, usually glowing red while stationary and changing color while accelerating. A daylight witness saw four clam-shaped objects moving silently in formation. The Bend Bulletin reported the sightings on 24 July 1964; on 29 July several Oregon newspapers attributed them to two satellites, and NICAP's UFO Investigator listed them in its account of the 1964 sighting wave. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
