Background

Raimo Blomqvist was visiting his parents at their summer cottage on Kallavesi lake when he noticed a strange, colorful ball of light coming from the sky that turned out, as it approached, to be an oval glowing object. While it hovered above the shallow water by an island, he saw something fall from it and heard a sound like hot metal touching cold water; the object then shot straight upward. Blomqvist recovered a stone piece of 2 to 2.5 inches and handed it to UFO investigators in 1975. X-ray analysis at Åbo Akademi University in Turku suggested volcanic material, while analysts at the University of Turku using a mass spectrometer concluded it was mostly iron, not ore, not volcanic, not a meteorite and not machined, though it had been heated to around 650 °C. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
