Deception Island, Antarctica: 17 at Argentine station watch lens-shaped disc, photos taken
On July 3, 1965, from 7:42 p.m., 17 people at the Argentine station on Deception Island, Antarctica, including three Chileans, watched a color-changing lens-shaped disc maneuver for about an hour; Cpl. Uladislao Duran Martinez took 10 color photos.
Background
At 7:42 p.m. 17 people, including three visiting Chilean personnel, observed a lens-shaped disc that maneuvered erratically across the sky for about an hour at the Argentine Deception Station, which Eberhart places in the South Orkney Islands. The object changed colors (red, yellow, green, orange, blue, white) as it zigzagged from about 30° above the north-northwest horizon. It hovered, accelerated, reversed direction and changed its luminosity, passing at times behind clouds and also in front of cirrus. It finally disappeared to the northwest, decreasing in size and gaining altitude. Cpl. Uladislao Duran Martinez took 10 color photos through a theodolite and field glasses; the case was examined in the Condon report. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
