Background

At 1:30 a.m. Don Tenopir, 44, was driving a truck on State Highway 15 about 25 miles south of Abilene, near Elmo, Kansas, when all his lights went out; they came back on intermittently. An object passed just above his truck with a wind-like sound and hovered about 100 feet in front of him. Tenopir stopped his rig, and the object slowly rose and took off to the southwest. It seemed to be 14–15 feet in diameter and 2 feet thick with a 4-foot hump in the middle, was orange-colored and shot off rays in spurts. He stopped in Abilene to report the sighting to Abilene Reflector-Chronicle reporter Ed Corwin. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
