Waverly, Iowa: Double-saucer object lands on hill, small being seen, burned area found
At 3:30 p.m. one day in August 1965, David Gibson, his father and sister in Waverly, Iowa, saw a silvery object like two saucers put together descend behind a hill; Gibson briefly saw a small being there and found a burned area and three impressions.
Background
At 3:30 p.m., David Gibson was sitting in the front yard of his house in Waverly, Iowa, with his father and sister when they heard a high-pitched whine and saw an object descending to the south. The silvery UFO, about 15–20 feet in diameter, looked like two saucers put together and landed out of view on a tree-lined hill as the whining faded. Gibson walked about half a mile to look and briefly saw a “being” about 3–3.5 feet tall watching him from behind a tree at the top of the hill; it quickly vanished and he heard a rush of air. He found no footprints, but about 40 feet south of the tree there was a burned area about 15–20 feet across and three rectangular impressions forming a triangle. Jerome Clark reported the case in Flying Saucer Review in 1975. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
