Northeastern United States: Great blackout, reports of unusual lights around it
At 5:16 p.m. on November 9, 1965, the Northeast power blackout left over 30 million people in Ontario and eight northeastern US states without electricity; before and during it, unusual lights were reported in Syracuse and Niagara Falls, New York, and Holliston, Massachusetts.
Background
At 5:16 p.m. the Northeast power blackout hit parts of Ontario, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Vermont. Over 30 million people and 80,000 square miles were left without electricity for up to 13 hours. The cause was the setting of a protective relay on one of the transmission lines from the Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Power Station No. 2 in Queenston, Ontario, near Niagara Falls. Prior to and coincident with the blackout there were a number of reports of unusual lights in Syracuse and Niagara Falls, New York, and Holliston, Massachusetts, and there was speculation that the blackout was in some way related to UFO activity; there is no evidence of a direct connection. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
