Military Response
The control tower at Lockbourne Air Force Base near Columbus, Ohio was informed and directed the pilot of a C-47 to investigate. The pilot could make out no aircraft with navigation lights. Tower personnel watched it through 7x50 binoculars travelling at high speed.
Radar Detection
The Detroit Air Defense Sector at Custer Air Force Station near Battle Creek, Michigan detected the object on radar.
Explanation
