Incident
On March 5, 1965, two Air Force radar technicians were repairing the height-finder antenna at Benton Air Force Station (today Ground Equipment Facility QRC) in Ricketts Glen State Park near Red Rock, Pennsylvania. They observed a small, disc-shaped object that landed nearby. As they approached, a beam of light struck them, whereupon they lost consciousness and failed to return to the command post.
Search and Discovery
Their equipment was left behind, but the air police and Pennsylvania State Police could not at first find the men. After about 16 hours a state trooper found them dazed along State Route 487 south of Lopez, some 10 miles away. They appeared dehydrated and confused, with no alcohol or drugs in their systems, and were taken to hospital in Williamsport, then to Stewart AFB in New York.
Investigation and Findings
Doctors found traces of alpha radiation on their clothing and strange marks on their necks. AFOSI agents questioned them, but they remembered nothing. After two weeks they were discharged and returned to their unit. Traces such as landing marks were examined later.
Significance
The case is regarded as a classic abduction account with physical effects, supported by official responses and medical findings. It points to UAP activity close to military installations.
