Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Many see white oval object plunge into the sea off Ipanema
At 5:45 p.m. on 16 March 1966, many people saw a white oval object fall into the Atlantic near the Ilha Cagarras off Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro; a search of the sea and the island found nothing.
Background
At 5:45 p.m., many people saw a white oval object crash into the Atlantic Ocean close to the Ilha Cagarras off Ipanema, Brazil. Some saw a few smaller white parachute-shaped objects fall from it. A thorough search turned up nothing in the sea or on the island itself. Olavo T. Fontes reported the case in the APRO Bulletin, and W. Buhler described it in Flying Saucer Review in 1971. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
