Background

At 2:45 a.m. on March 17, 1966, doctors and nurses at the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, watched as a green object appeared to rise out of the ocean and hover before flying around a nearby hill. The object turned blue, then red, and two smaller discs were seen entering it. Olavo T. Fontes reported the sighting in the APRO Bulletin of March/April 1966, and the SBEDV Boletim described it in 1967 as a sighting by medical doctors; W. Buhler returned to it in Flying Saucer Review in 1971. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
