Dorchester, Massachusetts: Domed object hovers between apartment buildings, power fails
On the night of 23 April 1966, Jeanne Kalnicki and her two daughters in Dorchester, Massachusetts, watched an oval, domed object with blinking red lights hover between apartment buildings; it returned at 5:00 a.m., the windows rattled and the house lights went out during a power failure affecting 2,500 homes.
Background
At 10:45 p.m. on 23 April 1966, after hearing a listener call a live UFO sighting in to WMEX radio, Jeanne Kalnicki of Dorchester, Massachusetts, went to the window with her two daughters and saw an oval, domed object with a ring of blinking red lights and a yellow light on top bobbing up and down above a building across the street. Humming, it moved at eye level between their apartment building and the one next door, hovered for a few minutes, showed a glow within the dome, and then moved away erratically to the east. At 5:00 a.m., 11-year-old Judy Kalnicki saw the object right outside her bedroom window, about the size of the family's 1955 Lincoln, flashing its lights; when she screamed, it sped up its bobbing, a heavy thudding was heard, the windows rattled, her bed rocked, and all the lights in the house went off. The family watched the object from the back porch for about 12 minutes as it moved north toward Boston, after which the lights came back on. NICAP's investigation showed that the power failure affected 2,500 homes and was caused by two cables burning out a block away; a particle on the window sill gave a Geiger counter reading of .025 milliroentgens per hour. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
