Background
At 9:15 p.m. on 10 October 1966, Police Sgt. Benjamin Thompson of the Wanaque (New Jersey) Reservoir Police watched a bright light performing what he described as fantastic maneuvers over the reservoir. He noticed a slight mist in the wake of its movements. The light descended to about 150 feet above the water, then shot upward. Thompson had also seen UFOs at the reservoir in January and March 1966, and some teenagers reported a UFO in the area two nights later. The sighting was reported in the New York Times on 12 October 1966 and covered by NICAP, APRO, and other UFO periodicals; CUFOS holds a case file. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
