Background

At 10:00 a.m. on November 22, 1966, a deer hunter searching for game near Roaring River State Park, Missouri, returned to his group's camp and saw smoke rising from it. The tent and other camping equipment were destroyed: the tent was still smoldering, an aluminum tent pole was singed and the aluminum cots were melted, while the leaves of the two trees above the tent showed no damage at all; about 15 feet away the top of a dead tree was still burning. The witness then heard a low humming sound and saw an object rising from the valley about 300 feet away, photographing it twice as it ascended. He described an aluminum-colored disc about 25 feet in diameter and 8 feet thick, with a band around its center and some kind of projection at its rear; the humming intensified as the object picked up speed, and it disappeared within 20 seconds. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
