Background

At 6:30 p.m. on February 2, 1967, Capt. Oswaldo Sanvitti was flying a Faucett Perú DC-4 airliner from Chiclayo to Lima when crew and passengers noticed a bright light approaching from the west. Sanvitti estimated it at about 9 miles away, but it soon reached the aircraft and hovered above it; the cabin lights dimmed, the compass fluctuated and the radio gave off static. The object sped away to the east, brightening by 50%, then reappeared 5 minutes later with a second object, and both trailed the airliner until 5 minutes before it landed at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Callao. After landing, the passengers were held for interrogation by the authorities, and cameras and film of those who had photographed the objects were confiscated; one anonymous passenger reportedly kept his film. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
