Background

At 2:15 a.m. on March 8, 1967, while on patrol near a railroad crossing on Cherry Avenue in Goodland, Kansas, police officer Durl Rouse saw a large object whiz overhead from the southeast. It was 50 to 60 feet long and 14 to 15 feet high, looked like the 'bottom of a boat' from underneath, and had windows along a fuselage, a tall pole with a bright red light on top, and lights of white, red, blue, amber, green, and orange. Rouse brought Tom Dreiling, editor of the Goodland Daily News, to his car to substantiate the claim; just as Dreiling entered the vehicle, the object passed directly overhead again. Patrolman Ron Weehunt heard the object emitting a 'whirring sound' and saw a rotating light on top with multicolored lights on the sides. Officers from other area cities, including Sharon Springs and Colby, also observed the object. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
