Background

At 9:00 p.m. on April 17, 1967, school principal John L. Metz and three teachers, driving home in separate cars in Jefferson City, Missouri, saw a 350 to 400-foot, bluish-white, WWI-helmet-shaped object come over the Missouri River bluff and move directly above their cars, bathing them in intense light. Metz observed it through 8x binoculars. The object hovered above power lines for about 10 minutes and then headed toward the airport; two smaller disc- or helmet-shaped objects the size of a DC-3 emerged from its base. Metz drove to the airport on Highway 94 and found two more witnesses. Employees of Jefferson City Memorial Airport watched a flat, circular, star-like orange light flashing intermittently red and blue through a 30x 40 mm telescope between about 9:40 and 10:08 p.m., and the crew of Ozark Air Lines Flight 319 saw two large round objects moving in various directions below their airplane on final approach.
