Background

At 9:55 p.m., an architectural designer and her mother observed a strange object while driving in Tucson, Arizona. The mother noticed it first; the daughter stopped the car and both watched for about 3½ to 4 minutes. They described the object as parachute-shaped, rounded on top and flat on the bottom, with a shaft of light extending upward like a handle. Descending at roughly a 30-degree angle, it tipped, swayed, and seemed to 'bounce' as it approached the ground, apparently landing near the Rillito River; it made no sound. The women drove to the top of Skyline Country Club Estates to look for a glow but found nothing; after returning home the witness contacted local newspapers and Davis–Monthan Air Force Base, where she was told several similar reports had been received that evening and the objects were believed to be meteors. The case was published in the APRO Bulletin of May/June 1967. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
