Background

At 8:25 p.m. on 2 May 1967, Dennis Latcham, 19, was plowing a field near his home in rural Montezuma, Iowa, when he noticed a large, oval-shaped object hovering less than a quarter mile away. The object appeared gray and misty in the moonlight, with four red lights blinking in rotation and a steady white light on top, and it remained fixed in place while he continued working. Around 8:45 p.m., after finishing the field, he drove to within about 1,500 feet of the object, shut off his tractor and listened, but heard nothing. He started to walk toward it, then decided against it and returned to the tractor. He watched for another 10 to 15 minutes before the object suddenly rose straight up, angled west and climbed rapidly out of sight. The case was reported in the APRO Bulletin of May/June 1967. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
