At 5:35 p.m. on September 10, 1967, Capt. Fred Underhill and the crew of an Air Ferry Limited DC-6 flying at 16,000 feet about 63 miles north of Reus, Tarragona, Spain, saw a metallic-looking cone approach head-on and pass under the starboard wing; Barcelona controllers had no known aircraft in the area.
Background
At 5:35 p.m. Capt. Fred Underhill and his crew were flying an Air Ferry Limited DC-6 bound for England at 16,000 feet about 63 miles north of Reus, Tarragona, Spain. They saw an unusual object about 30° to their left and above, headed west. It crossed to their right, turned toward them, decelerated and descended; as it neared, they saw a metallic-appearing cone, point upward, with haze or mist around its lower portion. The object came head-on at an estimated 690–800 mph, passed under the starboard wing while turning and maneuvering, and disappeared to the south. Barcelona flight controllers could see no known aircraft in the area. Eberhart cites NICAP, Flying Saucer Review, the APRO Bulletin, the UFO Investigator and the MUFON UFO Journal.
