Lake Elsinore, California: Car stalls under red-orange object; Condon team investigates
Between 3:30 and 4 a.m. on 8 November 1967, a business executive's car near Lake Elsinore, California, lost lights, engine and radio as a red-orange object hovered over the road; NICAP found paint damage, while Roy Craig of the Condon Committee found no magnetic change.
Background
Between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. a business executive driving a 1964 Chrysler convertible near Lake Elsinore, California, lost his lights, engine and radio and felt strong pressure on his head and shoulders. He then saw a red-orange object 30 feet in diameter with rotating lights around its rim hovering over the road ahead at about 160 feet; after about 90 seconds it took off into the fog, the lights and radio returned and he could restart the car. NICAP investigators found the clock stopped at 3:46 a.m., spots where the paint rubbed off easily, small pits in paint and glass, and a distortion in the back window the driver had not noticed before. When Roy Craig interviewed him for the Condon Committee at the site, the witness changed his account to an object about 55 feet across flying 50โ75 feet above the car. Craig tested the hood and trunk for magnetic anomalies against a car of the same make and model and found no reorientation of its magnetic signature. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
