Background
On the night of June 19, 1968, miner Rómulo Velázquez, 25, encountered a landed UFO near Poopó, Oruro, Bolivia. A tall, thin being emerged, and Velázquez felt drawn toward it “as if by a magnet”; when he approached, the humanoid grabbed his right wrist, and he became paralyzed and lost consciousness. Meanwhile, neighbors and police officers across Poopó watched the UFO maneuver at low altitude over the town, lighting the area like daylight, before it emitted blue rays, rose and disappeared. Velázquez was later found partially paralyzed from a cerebral hemorrhage, and investigators found a wide area of burned grass at the reported landing site. The Santiago newspaper La Nación reported the case on June 29, 1968. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
