Background

Incident

On May 17, 1968 at around 5:00 in the morning, Caetano Sergio dos Santos, a night watchman in Caconde, São Paulo, Brazil, was returning home from work. In the yard he saw a cylindrical object about the size of a powdered milk tin embedded in the ground. At each end were dials with bands in black and red, protected under a glass or plastic cover with raised symbols in a semicircle and Arabic-looking numerals above them.

Investigation and Activation

Dos Santos took the device into the house, studied it for 90 minutes, and then put it on the bathroom windowsill before going to sleep. After his next shift he returned home at 1:00 at night and found the house lit up. His wife and son were standing outside in distress with neighbours. His wife reported a loud humming and intense heat from the object, which had woken them.

Disappearance

Inside, Dos Santos found a hole in the roof, roof tiles scattered on the floor, and the object gone. The case is regarded as a puzzling example of a small, interactive UAP device with physical traces.
