Elmer, Missouri: Glowing object beams light on road, truck's engine and radio die twice
At 6:40 a.m. on 4 March 1969, truck driver William Overstreet on Missouri J between Elmer and Atlanta, Missouri, saw a reddish-orange light about 100 feet across beam a cone of white light onto the road; his engine and radio died twice as he tried to drive through it.
Background
At 6:40 a.m., William Overstreet, 50, was driving his truck on Missouri J between Elmer and Atlanta, Missouri, when he saw a bright reddish-orange light about 100 feet in diameter floating along at 40 mph. It began to follow the road and beamed a strong, cone-shaped white light onto it from a height of 50 feet; Overstreet could feel the heat. The object changed from red to a blue sphere surrounded by a red ring. When he tried to drive through the beam, his motor and radio died within 6 feet of it; the same happened on a second attempt. The object then moved about a mile away, turned red again, switched off the beam and cruised away. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
