Chapeau, Quebec: Farmer sees brilliant light near ground, finds scorched circular imprints
At 2:00 a.m. on May 11, 1969, farmer Leo Paul Chaput near Chapeau, Quebec, saw a brilliant light close to the ground that seemed to come from a domed craft; in the morning he found a 32-foot circular indentation ringed by scorched grass and further ground markings.
Background
At 2:00 a.m. near the village of Chapeau, Quebec, on L’Isle-aux-Allumettes in the Ottawa River, farmer Leo Paul Chaput was awakened by his dog barking and saw a brilliant light close to the ground. The light source seemed to be a domed craft with a flat bottom, like a World War I helmet, about 500 feet away; when he looked away briefly it was gone, though he could hear the diminishing sound of a motor. In the morning he found a circular indentation 32 feet in diameter, 600 feet from his house, surrounded by a ring of scorched grass 2.5 feet wide; inside, the vegetation was undamaged, but three holes 8 inches wide and 3 inches deep formed an equilateral triangle 15 feet on a side. A second, slightly smaller circle with scorched grass and three indentations lay to the southwest, and a semicircular marking lay near it. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
