Background

In the early morning the crew of Thor Heyerdahl's papyrus boat Ra II watched a bright object move across the sky for several minutes. It disappeared in a "bright orange flash." Navigator Norman Baker relayed the report by shortwave radio while the vessel was making its way westward across the Atlantic from Safi, Morocco, to Barbados. The Ottawa Journal reported the sighting on 15 June 1970, and the APRO Bulletin followed in July/August 1970. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
