Background

Around 5:05 a.m. on August 18, 1970, Patrick Carré was driving through Le Puits d'Edme, Yonne, France, when he noticed a bright object on the ground to his left. Approaching it, he saw a gray metal-colored, basin-shaped top about 30–40 feet in diameter, resting on a rust-colored cylindrical column about 3 feet high, with round white disks about 15 inches across scattered irregularly around the basin. The heat from the object was too intense for him to stop, and, growing afraid, he drove on. The next day he returned to the spot and found traces of burning and a circle of flattened and withered grass 30–40 inches in diameter. Henry-Jean Besset reported the case in Flying Saucer Review Case Histories in 1971. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
