Background

Michel Jaffe set out on a motorcycle ride from his home in Mountain View, California, toward Bodega Bay. Near Hayward he observed an object consisting of two brilliant spheres, each about 12 inches wide, joined by a hazy white link with a trailing link; the leading sphere appeared red and the following one blue or possibly green. The object kept a constant distance in front of a small twin-engine aircraft, diving and maneuvering in step with it. Jaffe watched it for about four seconds before it moved behind him, and when he stopped, the object and the aircraft were already too far away. He later tried without success to reproduce the brilliance with mirrors, lasers and lights and ruled out kites or reflections. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
