Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Object with windows paces a Cessna near Santos Dumont Airport
Early on October 5, 1971, four pilots aboard a Cessna on approach to Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, saw an object like an inverted dish with oval windows fly parallel to them at about 98 feet for some 85 seconds before it dived toward the water and vanished.
Background
Early in the morning four pilots aboard a single-engine Cessna on the downwind leg to runway 20L at Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, watched a “huge star” approach on their starboard side. The object descended to their altitude, slowed rapidly to their airspeed and flew parallel with them at an estimated 98 feet. It looked like an “inverted dish” with a small rounded protrusion on top that seemed to contain oval windows, and what appeared to be a person's head was seen in one window looking at them. After about 85 seconds the object descended at high velocity toward the water, turned sharply left and disappeared within seconds. The reporting witness was Chief Flight Instructor José Américo C. Medeiros, 23, the pilot; Richard F. Haines analyzed the case in the International UFO Reporter in 2012. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
