At 10:15 p.m. on July 10, 1972, Rafael Aranda's Renault 8 lost power near Alcaracejos, Córdoba, Spain, while a rotating bright light beside the road directed a beam at the car.
Background
At 10:15 p.m. Rafael Aranda was driving his Renault 8 at 55–60 mph on a back road approaching Alcaracejos, Córdoba, Spain, when the car suddenly slowed and would go no faster than about 40–50 mph even with the accelerator floored. He noticed a bright light like a great white light bulb directing a beam at his car. The object, about 3–5 feet in diameter, rotated clockwise and moved on or near the ground to the right of the highway, partly hidden by oak trees. When Aranda lost sight of it, the car worked normally again. The next day Renault mechanics found no explanation for the loss of power. The account follows the entry in George M.
