Adjuntas, Puerto Rico: UFO wave, mayor sees three discs, F-104s scrambled at Utuado
In August 1972 numerous UFO sightings were reported across rural Puerto Rico and in San Juan and Ponce, centering on Adjuntas, where the mayor saw three bright discs, and Utuado, where the Air National Guard scrambled F-104s and a teacher approached a lit disc in a clearing.
Background
Numerous UFO sightings were reported throughout rural Puerto Rico as well as in San Juan and Ponce, and people traveled to the small town of Adjuntas, where the objects were seen frequently. One Friday night the mayor of Adjuntas, traveling with a group in three cars along a lonely road in Barrio Garzas, saw three bright discs whose light changed in color and intensity. Sightings also centered on Utuado, where the Air National Guard had scrambled F-104s to chase the objects. A teacher at Utuado High School and his brother saw a bright light 300 feet from the road and approached a flattened, brilliantly lit disc about the size of a small house with small dark rectangles around its edge, which vanished after a few minutes like "someone turning off a light."
