Colby, Kansas: 50–60 witnesses and police see whistling objects with red and green lights
From 2:00 to 6:20 a.m. on 19 August 1972, 50–60 witnesses in Colby, Kansas, including police Sgt. Paul Carter and Officer Dennis Brown, saw objects with red and green flashing lights; one hovered over a pasture and lit the landscape with a blinding white light before shooting away.
Background
A series of sightings involving 50–60 witnesses took place in Colby, Kansas, between 2:00 and 6:20 a.m. John L. Calkins, awakened by barking dogs, made the first call to police after seeing three objects hovering nearby with shrill whistling and beeping sounds, the largest with six flashing red and green lights. At 2:07 a.m. police Sgt. Paul Carter followed an object with red and green lights southward until it hovered 10–15 feet above a pasture about a quarter-mile away; he estimated it at 30–35 feet long and 18–20 feet tall. It suddenly emitted an intense, blinding white light that lit the landscape, showed a shape "like a cereal bowl turned upside down," and shot up out of sight in 3 seconds with a whooshing noise, which Officer Dennis Brown also saw. Police in Oakley, Officers Earl Wood Jr. and Duane Nelson, watched it heading southeast through binoculars, and W. L. Johnson of Colby watched a maneuvering object with orange-red lights from 6:08 until it disappeared at 6:20 a.m. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
