Background

At 11:00 p.m. Lance Cpl. Mike Perrin and a soldier named Carvell from Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, were taking part in a radio exercise on Bellerby Moor. While Perrin's Land Rover was parked beside a small road, the radio crackled, the voices broke up and the set went dead; the headlights also faded out. A strange craft flew silently toward them and stopped about 328 feet away, hovering 10 feet above the ground; it was shaped like a rugby ball with a row of small circular windows flashing white light, vapor issuing from the bottom and a buzzing sound. A nearby herd of cows seemed frozen on the spot. After 5–10 minutes the object rose silently and disappeared over the woods, and headlights and radio worked again; the next afternoon the soldiers found a burned circle of grass about 30 feet across. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
