Background

Onilson Pátero, an organizer of public libraries for the State of São Paulo, was just outside Catanduva, after giving a ride to a stranger, when his car radio got static and the engine began to fail; a blue circle of light about 8 inches across moved around inside the car, and then a beam of blue light shone on him from the top of the hill. Feeling heat and stuffiness, he got out and heard a buzzing; the object was a gray structure about 36 feet wide, like two soup plates rim to rim, with a tube extending toward the ground. As he ran, something held him back, and a rod of blue light over the car seemed to make it transparent, showing the trunk, wheel gears and engine; he fainted. About an hour later two young men found him lying in rainwater and returned with policeman Clóvis Queiros, and he was taken to hospital and soon released. The next day his back and stomach itched and patches of skin turned purplish blue, then yellow, before disappearing; medical examinations found no cause, and he later reported another encounter on an April 26 (the entry gives no year) that some investigators consider a possible fantasy. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
